This was invented in 1990 by Tim Berners-Lee who was a scientist. The purpose of this was to enable scientists at various universities to gain access to each other's research documents.

HTML is a language, which enables information to be presented on the Internet. This blog is going to focus on Meta Tags.

I am often asked What Meta Tags are. These are a special HTML(Hypertext Markup Language) tag that provides information about a Web page.

Meta Tags do not affect how a Web page is displayed. They provide information such as who created the page, how often it is updated, what the page is about, and which keywords represent the page's content.

In tomorrow's blog, I will explain some HTML terminology.

Best wishes

Melanie BerenblutBerenblut IT Training & Consultancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05142998745107793869noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4936932108318116930.post-39264815314665379692010-12-07T06:40:00.000+00:002010-12-06T22:41:03.747+00:00Just In Time Training SessionsWould you like to learn a new IT Skill to prepare you for the New Year? As a trainer I am often asked what the terms mean, today I am going to share four definitions with you.

HTML - Hyper Text Markup Language

Hyper Text Markup Language is the markup language for webpages. HTML

consists of tags which are surrounded by angled brackets eg
within web page content. The tags usually come in pairs eg italic the first tag is the opening tag, the second tag is the closing tag

SEO - Search Engine Optimisation

Search Engine Optimisation is the process of improving visibility of a website or a web page in search engines.

PPC - Pay Per Click

Pay Per Click is internet advertising, advertisers pay the site that is hosting when their advertisment is clicked.

CPC - Cost Per Click

Cost Per Click is the sum paid by an advertiser to search engines for a single click on their advertisement.

I hope that you have found these definitions helpful. Tomorrow I am going to continue with some further website terminology.

Best wishes
